Virgil Abloh is Fascinated to Think Out-of-the-Box
Famous designer Abloh forced the massive mass of people to rethink daily use items. This is what exactly he has done with his much-anticipated collection built for IKEA.
For example, Ikea receipt is recognizable immediately to anybody who has ever visited a Swedish furniture store. The paper piece has the brand’s logo in bold print on top along with a bar code and torn edges from where the paper is torn off.
Most of the people do not pay attention to the receipt design. They usually store them in wallet. But Virgil Abloh turned IKEA receipt into an incredible artistic piece in the form of 3*7-foot rug ($99).
Abloh explains:
“The receipt that has been transformed into a beautiful art is a trademark on its own. Customers can hang on the wall or spread it on the floor."
Abloh spoke about his wide home decor collection:
"I want to offer every statement piece to the people with a sense of pride. This collaboration has been the toughest of any design project I had done earlier."
He further said:
"I'm delighted that Markerad is now ready to meet new people. I look forward to seeing how daily items will move into the homes of people and add a great value to them. It is because that is the main motive of the entire collection."
In fact, Ikea creative leader 'Henrik' added:
"I was happily working with Virgil and love how he takes modern design into a contemporary context. It would be boring if he simply copied the modern design. But he takes into account tradition and history and makes the design in a unique way."
Abloh’s Markerad Collection Boast Quirky Designs
Abloh basically crafted the collection to align with the democratic design concept of IKEA. It means it is intended for cost-effectiveness, comfort, and trendiness. His collection features carefully built pieces. This includes a green rug with a “wet grass” phrase and a replica of Mona Lisa.
In fact, Markerad Collection combines street art culture, modern art as well as IKEA product design in most common furnishings. They are excellent for people looking to add fashionable decor to their home or seeking to rejuvenate their existing one.
Each Statement Piece is Built According to the Needs of People
All furniture pieces get inspiration by 1950s Scandinavian modernism. They are also easy to assemble and use. For example, people can hit the table legs in just one single punch via wedge-dowel fitting without the requirement to use any tool.
It is great for people that do not want to put much effort into the complicated assembly of the product. As per the official IKEA declaration, partnership with Abloh was built mainly while taking into account plenty of homeowners.
Virgil Abloh explained that:
“He always desired to turn dull into an alluring piece.”
While the opening of his recent project, Virgil Abloh said:
"What makes Virgil Abloh Ikea collab different is that it brings what I displayed in the design community and in pop culture. Almost every person owns a piece of IKEA furniture. The pairing has allowed us to collaborate with youngsters.”
“Usually, furniture is made by the artisans for one particular set of people, depending on their needs and taste. Therefore, I challenged myself and the team to build a bold, modern, and empowering collection on a broad scale, and it was according to our vision.”
IKEA Off-White Rug is 6 ft 7" by 9 ft 10"

This includes a change in the IKEA logo at the Wembley store. He placed yellow quotation marks on around the block sign.
It means IKEA has put its logo in the signature quotation marks of Abloh. Obviously, you will find quotes in huge IKEA collection itself, that features a tote bag (SCULPTURE) and rug (WET GRASS).
